1. Are we farmers or processors?

We are farmers rather than processors or packers. We take care of our rice and other grains from the seed to the package. This fact translates into the quality of our products.

2. What does it mean that our harvest is limited?

It means that we produce a certain annual amount of rice, cultivated within specific áreas in the Natural Park of the Albufera and the Natural Park of the Pego- Oliva Wetlands (both located in Valencia, Spain). As it’s a reduced amount, we can guarantee the highest possible quality of our harvest.

3. Why is our rice homogeneous?

Because all our rices are Extra Category. We do not mix grains of different varieties in pur packages. Other reason is the varietal purity of our seeds.

4. What does “Extra Category Rice” mean?

Extra Category rice is the one that presents a percentage of whole grains higher than 92%. It is the maximum category recognized by Spanish legislation.

5. What is the varietal purity?

It is a quality parameter that guarantees that the seeds belonging to a variety are not mixed with others of different varieties. Moreover we guarantee that no mixed varieties are found in our packaging: each of our references is packaged with a single rice variety.

6. What is the seal of the Designation of Origin “Arroz de Valencia”?

It is a quality certification granted by the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin. The seal certifies native rice varieties, grown from certified seed in the Natural Parks of the Valencian Community, with an irrigation system that favors the homogenous maturation of the grain reaching the highest industrial and culinary quality.

Therefore, this seal is a guarantee that rice is grown exclusively in the same area, which is a quality parameter.

7. What is the Natural Product seal?

It is a distinctive granted exclusively to 100% natural products, protected under the seal of the D.O., obtained and processed within the area of the Natural Parks of the Valencian Region (Spain). The seal guarantees that the cultivation and production processes are respectful with the environment.

8. Where do we grow our rice and other grains?

Most of our rices are grown in the Natural Park of the Albufera environment and the Natural Park of the Pego - Oliva Wetlands environment (Spain).

9. Is the rice cultivation respectful of the environment?

Yes, it is. We grow with the most exquisite environmental respect within a protected ecosystem. Our rice is clean of chemical contamination and it does not contain harmful residues of any kind. We continue working several processes of the harvest manually, as yesteryear.

10. Do we make organic farming?

Yes, we do. Some of our varieties are produced by organic farming: quinoa, black rice, long rice and round rice. We are pioneers in the cultivation of certified organic rice in the Valencian Community.

11. Can our fields be visited?

Yes, they can. Our fields are open to any professional who wants to know the condition of the rice that will be cooked after the next harvest. We are proud of our work and we care about transmitting all possible knowledge about it, so the professional can obtain the best result with our raw material.

12. What is our commitment to the environment?

As rice farmers, we are joined by an ecological link with the ecosystem: there would be no rice without the environmental conditions of our area. For this reason, respect for the environment is a priority for us.

In addition, the rice fields are indispensable in the food chain of the Natural Parks of our ambience; at the same time they fulfill a natural function of water purification filter.

We practice an active commitment to the environment, taking care to detail our work processes. We are proud to be one of the factors that enrich the biodiversity of our habitat.

13. Is rice grown year-round?

No, it isn’t. The rice calendar is marked by the weather and the terrain, so it is cultivated once a year.

The sowing takes place in the second quarter of the year and the rice is growing throughout the summer until the ears have matured.

We harvest our rice after the summer (September-October).

Once it’s completed, the land remains fallow until the beginning of the next cycle.

14. Has the rice an expiration date?

No, it has not. Rice is a product that does not expire, since it does not deteriorate becoming harmful to health.

15. What is the best before date?

This date indicates the minimum period of durability of the optimal conditions of the product. In our products, we designate a minimum period of 1 year and a minimum period of 2 years in those references vacuum packed.

The optimal state can be prolonged by storing the product in an environment free of humidity and below 18ºC. Under these conditions, even open packages can last longer than one year.

16. Why is ABC Rice a brand for professionals?

ABC Rice is a brand designed to supply the professional due to we offer technical support and packaging specially designed for the profile of the kitchen expert.

17. What kind of specific support is offered to professionals?

As specialists in rice and other grains from growing to packaging, we have a deep knowledge of our raw materials. All this knowledge we put at the reach of professionals through two useful tools that we have devised for them: The Alphabet of Rice and Cooking Advices.

18. What are the specific packages for the professional?

For the Food sector we mainly offer our plastic bag of 5Kg, thinking about saving costs to the professional. We usually serve it in packs of 5 units (25 Kg).

We also offer the Vacuum Box. In this package, the raw material is vacuum packed. The presentation consists of a cardboard box containing 6 cylinders of vacuum product. The advantage of this container is the durability of the optimal conditions of the product. It allows a extended storage, long distance transport and ensures that it remains immune to insects and odours. This type of packaging is a life insurance for the product.

19. What is the Rice Alphabet?

The Rice Alphabet is a guide that we have devised to help the professional to know the organoleptic properties and gastronomic uses of each variety of rice and other grains.

20. What are the Cooking Advices?

The Cooking Advices are theoretical and practical knowledge beyond the "how to cook". They are in fact Technical Concepts, to give answers to the concerns and problems that may arise to the professional who works with rice or other grains.

Knowing what amylose is, amylopectin, or what is the substance responsible for a rice smell, are some of the knowledge we try to convey.
